Basics to LiDAR Workshop Series

LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) is an optical remote sensing technology that measures properties of scattered light to find range and/or other information of a distant target. The prevalent method to determine distance to an object or surface is to use laser pulses. Like the similar radar technology, which uses radio waves, which is light that is not in the visible spectrum, the range to an object is determined by measuring the time delay between transmission of a pulse and detection of the reflected signal. The acronym LADAR (Laser Detection and Ranging) is often used in military contexts. The term laser radar is also in use but is misleading because it uses laser light and not the radiowaves that are the basis of conventional radar.

Basics to LiDAR workshop program

How can you find out more about LiDAR and how it can benefit your organization?

At ILMF we run two days of workshops, aimed at providing novice operators, their managers and potential purchasers of equipment with an understanding of the basic principles and fundamental benefits and technology associated with LiDAR. Those that attend these workshops find out:

• what LiDAR is
• how it works
• what the applications are
• the cost benefits
• how it compares with other mapping technologies

Delegates can dip in and out of these sessions, follow up with exhibiting companies at their booths and within two short days can speak intelligently regarding the overall assessment and management process for LiDAR projects.
