Operational Implementation of LiDAR Data Quality Measure Software

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Geospatial Technical Operations Center (NGTOC) is working with the developers of the Data Quality Measure (DQM) software to implement DQM in NGTOC LiDAR quality control (QC) activities for the 3D Elevation Program. DQM provides an ability to determine the relative accuracy of overlapping swaths of LiDAR point clouds using a point-to-plane measurement technique. The USGS LiDAR Base Specification has relative accuracy thresholds so DQM will be an essential tool for NGTOC LiDAR data QC. The software will ultimately be available as government-furnished freeware for public use. This presentation will highlight the challenges of testing DQM, integrating DQM into the NGTOC LiDAR QC workflow, and improvements in the software over the past year.
