The 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) Strategic Acquisition Plan

3DEP aspires to systematically collect enhanced elevation data in the form of lidar data over the continental United States, Hawaii and the U.S territories and ifsar data over Alaska. 3DEP is a collaborative program which relies on funding from Federal Agencies, State, Tribal and Local governments, and non-profit agencies. Private sector firms under contract to the government collect the data and provide technical expertise essential to the continued evolution of the program. 3DEP has achieved an important milestone and has enhanced elevation data available or in-work for 50% of the country. The program applauds the collective effort of all stakeholders who helped to achieve this milestone, however the work is not done. To reach the goal of national coverage, 3DEP is developing a national acquisition strategy in the form of state-based acquisition plans. State based acquisition strategies will recognize and respond to the unique set of business requirements, funding partners and technological solutions for enhanced elevation data inherent to the distinct geophysical and geopolitical conditions of each state. USGS is working with the National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC) in the development of these stakeholder acquisition plans. This presentation will provide up to date status information on data availability and will lay out the framework to achieve national 3DEP coverage. This renewed ?Call for Action? will highlight challenges, opportunities, roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders in executing the 3DEP State-based and collective National acquisition strategy in pursuit of national coverage
