Wide Area LiDAR Mapping in Mountainous Areas
LiDAR mapping of large areas that have high relief can be very complex in comparison to mapping other more typical terrain types. There are many different challenges with mountain LiDAR mapping that do not exist in projects characterized as flat land or rolling hills. This presentation will cover the unique difficulties of aerial LiDAR data acquisition and processing as well as new technological breakthroughs designed to mitigate these challenges. Real world projects will be used to review data collection optimizations and production workflow techniques to produce USGS QL2 level LiDAR data and derivative products.
