Dr Stefan Hrabar is a Principal Research Scientist at the CSIRO Autonomous Systems Lab. He holds a PhD in Computer Science (Robotics) and has 16 years of drone related research and development experience. He is broadly interested in civilian drone applications, making them more user-friendly by increasing their levels of autonomy and improving the human-machine interaction experience. His research has covered topics such as vision and lidar-based obstacle avoidance, lidar mapping, path planning, mission planning tools, and 3D visualisation of drone-collected data. He leads the development and commercialisation of Hovermap, a SLAM-based lidar mapping and autonomy payload for industrial drones. He represents CSIRO and Australia on the International Forum for Aviation Research (IFAR), and co-leads the IFAR UAS working group.
